My Weight Gain

I put on weight slowly over a number of years, so it took a while before I fully realised how much I'd gained. I was used to be a trim size 10 but I had somehow crept up to size 14 and even those clothes were feeling tight.

IAlthough I was a regular visitor to the gym, I'd always been a bit of a plodder because I wrongly assumed that over exerting myself would make me 'bulk up'. I also drove to work where I sat at a computer all day, before driving home.

Added to this was my love for starchy carbs in the form of sandwiches, pasta, potatoes, biscuits and crisps. I'd eat large meals and be really full, but not long after I'd be hungry again, and would often experience energy slumps where I felt shaky, tired and irritable. This just made me want to eat more and I didn't know how to break the cycle.

Identifying my EATERtype™

Taking the EATERtype™ assessment was a real revelation because I suddenly realised why I was struggling to control my eating habits. My EATERtype™ results showed that I am a Carb Craver which means that I was eating too many of the wrong type of carbs and causing my blood sugar levels to rocket after every meal and then drop again very quickly. This explained why I was constantly hungry and why I couldn't resist snacking.

As well as revealing my EATERtype™ I was also given advice on adapting my diet to better control my bloody sugar levels. The great news was that I didn't need to cut out carbs completely to feel better - I just need to find that right balance.

I was also advised to try DEcarb™, which blocks digestion of around two thirds of the carbs from a normal meal.

Making positive changes

The first thing I did was to start eating more brown and wholegrain carbs, rather than white, processed versions. I also made an effort to have a more balanced diet and include foods that would stabilise my blood sugar levels. This meant I had fewer cravings and I started to see results.

I also upped my game in the gym and began to exercise harder, so I was using more energy.

Why DEcarb™ works for me

The wonderful thing about DEcarb™ is that I can still enjoy the foods I love, including the occasional treat like biscuits and crisps, without experiencing the same energy slumps as before. That makes it easier for me to stick to a moderate, healthy diet and not binge to make myself feel better.

Achieving success

My friends and husband say that I look great now, which is fantastic to hear. I also love being able to wear everything in my wardrobe and it's easy to buy new clothes because everything in my size fits. If you feel you look good then you are more confident, and if I can get away with people thinking I'm younger than my years then that makes my day!
