My Weight Gain

I'm a really sociable, outgoing person, but when I started to put on weight it began to seriously affect my confidence. It got to the stage where I didn't want to go out with friends, and I hated seeing photos of myself.

I've tried various things over the years to stay in shape, including numerous fad diets like Atkins, which left me feeling tired and sick. I love carbohydrates and found it incredibly hard to go without bread, pasta and potatoes. I'm also a big believer in the power of exercise, and try to fit in a gym workout at least three days a week, which means I need plenty of energy. Going without carbs doesn't work because it leaves me too weak to exercise.

Being much stricter with my diet combined with regular exercise meant that I steadily lost weight, but then I had my gallbladder removed at the start of 2009. As a result, I had to take things easy for several months and the pounds began to creep back on.

Identifying my EATERtype™

I was determined not to ruin all my hard work so I took the EATERtype™ assessment in order to shed light on my individual eating habits. I came out as an Energy Eater, which means I prefer meals that are high in starchy carbs; partly because I hate the thought of feeling hungry and not having enough energy throughout the day.

As well as being given useful advice on changing my diet for the better, I was advised to try DEcarb™, which blocks the absorption of around two thirds of starchy carbs, and therefore reduces the calories available from this element of my food.

Making positive changes

Nowadays I try to limit the amount of carbs I eat, and where possible I go for whole grain versions like brown bread and brown rice. I'm also back in the gym on a regular basis, which makes a real difference to my frame of mind.

Why DEcarb™ works for me

Although I am much better at moderating my eating habits than a few years ago, carbs are still a real weakness. DEcarb™ is a godsend because it helps to regulate my calorie intake from starchy carbs, as well as helping to balance out my energy levels after a carb-heavy meal.

Achieving success

Since losing weight my confidence has dramatically increased. I feel generally happier, my fitness levels have increased and I have more flexibility to wear flattering clothes that suit my personality. My friends and family are delighted because they can see the positive effect that being slim has on my wellbeing.
